6 Reasons You Need Engagement Photos

You’re engaged, friend!! And we are SO stoked for you to begin this exciting chapter in your lives together. As a wedding photographer and videographer team, we have had the honor of capturing so many lovely couples throughout the different stages of life. It is our firm belief (not only as professionals in the wedding industry, but as a married couple) that documenting your engagement season is so special. And hey, we get it! Not everyone loves being in front of the camera. But luckily for you, we’ve put together 6 reasons you need engagement photos; we like to think we’ll change your mind if you’re on the fence. So, let’s get into it!

Why You Need Engagement Photos

Comfortability

While Shiloh and I certainly are behind the camera a lot, we weren’t always comfortable being in front of the camera. If you’ve never had professional photos taken, it can be a bit intimidating. I mean, a big lens and an unfamiliar face trying to capture your authentic emotions? Your engagement photos are a great opportunity for you to become more comfortable not only with the camera, but with your wedding photographer.

Get to Know Your Photographer

As mentioned above, your engagement photos are the perfect time to work with your wedding photographer before your wedding day. Even if you happen to be comfortable in front of the camera, every photographer is different. It’s important to feel what it’s like to work specifically with your wedding photographer (and videographer). Bonus: You’ll walk away feeling so confident in knowing that you look like a million bucks!

Document an Exciting Chapter

Welcome to your fiancé era! For most couples, this is the shortest part of a  relationship. Odds are, you’ve dated for a few years and you’re preparing to be married! This chapter in your lives deserves to be recognized + documented.

Pretty Pictures to Share

This one might seem pretty obvious, but talk about a plus! I remember the first time Shiloh and I had our photos taken professionally. And I remember seeing a sneak peek and thinking, “Wow! I look like that!?!” Talk about a confidence boost. Sharing the photos was something I was actually excited to do. I was confident that our photographer had captured us in a really authentic, beautiful way. And I knew our family and friends would want to see our genuine smiles + feel the emotions coming from the photos.

Tell Your Love Story

It’s so seldom in life that you get to be super cheesy and really experience the moment. Your engagement session is your chance to really highlight what makes your relationship, your relationship. Maybe you went on your first date to a baseball game? Why not take your photos at the same baseball field, or even head to an MLB game!? Or maybe you two are super laid back and love lounging on your couch in matching sweats. The options are truly endless when it comes to unique ways to document your engagement photos.

Excuse for a Date Night

Finally, one of our favorite reasons to take engagement photos is that it’s the perfect excuse to head out on a date night. We really want to encourage you to use your engagement session as an opportunity to treat yourselves. Get all dolled up, stop for a quick drink or ice cream beforehand, take your photos, and afterwards, go out to dinner to reminisce on the fun experience. You know that “trend” on TikTok right now, about romanticizing your life? Do it. Romanticize each second of your engagement… it goes by so fast.
