Tettegouche State Park Cliffside Elopement
Katie and Gage’s Tettegouche State Park cliffside elopement was a long time in the making, through the darkest of days. Chuck and I always love hearing how our couples met and fell in love. And when I tell you that Katie and Gage’s love story brought me to tears, I’m not lying. It was truly such an honor to capture this chapter in their love story along Minnesota’s North Shore, and we’re so excited to share it with you.
North Shore, Minnesota Elopement
We first connected with Katie when she inquired for an elopement photographer. It was when she inquired that she told me their love story. Katie met Gage in California (through her brother); they instantly became best friends. A couple months into knowing each other, Katie knew she had feelings for him. It wasn’t until she was in a terrible car accident (landing her in the hospital), that they professed their love for one another. The next day, they headed to Minnesota to visit Katie’s parents. Now, a year later, they are living together in Minnesota with their two cats and their pup. No matter where life takes them, they know for certain that they will always be best friends.

Gage and Katie both have a love for the North Shore. They love the jagged rocks and the waves that crash to shore. Gage, being a bit of a daredevil, knew very early on in the elopement planning process that he wanted to get married standing on a cliff’s edge. Naturally, we found ourselves at the end of a trail in Tettegouche State Park standing over Lake Superior for their ceremony. But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself!

The morning of their cliffside elopement, they got ready at Cave Point Lodge where they shared their first look. From their hotel, we started the quick hike out to Shovel Point for their ceremony. The skies were overcast which really added to the moodiness of the day. Throughout their entire elopement, it was so evident that they truly are each other’s best friend. The little glances, the tears wiped from their eyes during the first look, and the laughter as they shared a picnic. Once the “I Do’s” were said, they sat overlooking the choppy waves of Lake Superior and shared their favorite candy with one another (Haribo Gummy Bears + Sour Patch Watermelons). No candy or charcuterie board was going to warm us up though, so they shared a warm cup of coffee to wrap up their Tettegouche State Park cliffside elopement.
Unique Elopement Ideas
As if none of the above was enough to make Katie and Gage’s elopement one of my absolute favorites to date, I once again was holding back tears during their picnic. Their families had actually written them letters to read after they tied the knot. It was so special watching them read the letters written by their parents and grandparents. Such a touching way to still have your family ‘with you’ on your elopement day.
