A Retro Inspired Joshua Tree Elopement

There is something to say about the way a couple looks at each other and treats one another, in a way you can just tell they are going to last a lifetime and into eternity. That’s exactly what we envision for Maria and Ricky. They are goofy, always poking fun at each other, but also very aware of each other’s needs and desires. Wayyy back in 2020, this sweet couple had a courthouse wedding back in New York where they too are a photo and video duo. Similar to many couples who chose to still get married during Covid, they didn’t have the chance to invite family and friends to their courthouse wedding. The more they thought about their wedding day though, the more they realized they wanted to do something with a little more flair. Fast forward to 2022, they reached out and we all decided that a Joshua Tree elopement for a vow renewal would be the perfect way to recommit their love to each other!

Maria + Ricky’s Dreamy Joshua Tree Elopement Vow RENEWAL

We rented the CasaCabin, which is a garage-turned-Airbnb (hello ideal home for Chuck and me someday! 🤤 ), and proceeded with the events from there. Maria and Ricky chose to get ready separately and write new vows to one another that they would then read later that morning. Ricky cracked us and chose to initially write them on a piece of cardboard while he Facetimed his family who is in Puerto Rico. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room! Maria took a few moments to admire her beautifully chosen wedding dress and they had the most emotion-filled first look I’ve ever been a part of. Let’s just say, the tears kept on flowing all day long! After their first look, we took the afternoon to do some portraits with the Mustang Convertible they decided to rent to add a little flare to their elopement experience.

The Joshua Trees were such a unique backdrop and boy did Maria and Ricky look like they walked straight out of a Vogue magazine! I felt like the paparazzi, but only getting their best angles of course 😉 We had a beautiful golden hour glow after our afternoon session, so they came back to the Airbnb and had the ceremony during the sunset. The golden glow of the desert just hits differently. Its soft light mixing with the swirls of dust and sand cascading in the air made for the most romantic and dreamy shots. It’s such a special moment to be a part of with our couples and the magic that happened between their vows was breathtaking. *insert more tears and sniffles here* Maria had a fun little dress change after the ceremony and we popped champagne, played with the flash, and did a bit of night photography. They rode off into the night honking the horn and celebrating their love! I couldn’t have asked for a more fun couple to have spent the day laughing and rejoicing over their love with!
